Walk In The Dark

Walk In The Dark

I need a hand to walk in the dark I need to love to walk in the dark To feel a warm breath, to hear a soft voice Could help me to walk in the dark I need a shield to walk in the fire I need a cold sword to cut down the fire To stand high above, the crisp of the flames Could help me...

Castle Tarnave

Castle Tarnave

Riding on silver, spinning round On the dark of the evening With attention wrapped around the moon Round and round on silver, she was the very essence Of our communication And its intent Carelessly floating towards an orange symphony Clearly the two did tell all the mysteries Dear yo...

Welcome
Tim Marshall

Hello and welcome to TimMarshell.com. It is both my pleasure and honor to share my music and my life with you. Inside you will find more information about the man behind the music, and my dare to live a dream.

About Tim Marshall.

Remember what it was like to be a kid? You would spend all day dreaming about what you would do when you grew up. Whether you wanted to be an engineer, a musician, or even walk on the moon; it didn’t matter as long as you dreamed and dreamed big. For one reason or another we get older, life becomes more complicated, and we tend to fall into relatively ordinary lives. We oftentimes forget just how precious the gift of imagination is and what it was like to just get lost in a moment, a thought, or a fantasy. Now on rare occasions some of us get a second chance to find our inner self and remember that life is far from ordinary if you only dare to dream. Those people who choose to do so become an inspiration, giving hope to the mundane and offering an escape from the self imposed prisons of which we reside.

Tim Marshall is one of those people. Having grown up in a particularly musically rich time in our history he found moments of serenity and escape in records such as “Sergeant Pepper” and “Mad Man Across The Water”. Artist like The Beatles, Cat Stevens, and Jethro Tull were a regular part of his life and are partially responsible for the vast eclecticism and surreal nature found in the music he produces today. “Music’s purpose is to transcend and send you into a dream state”, Tim says, and dream he did.

It was obvious that his fascination and intrigue had developed into full blown aspirations as he quickly developed into a musician at a young age. Tim wrote his first song in the 8th grade and continued to cultivate his ideas and lyrical thoughts for years and years but was never afforded the opportunity record them into song.

Instead, as time would see it Tim’s life began to take a much different path. He never lost touch with the musician at heart, but dreams would have to make way for a more consistent reality. He worked hard for many years trying on several hats until he settled in to his current profession as a Petroleum Geologist.

You see while it always played an important role in his life it wasn’t until much later that he would have the opportunity to follow his dreams and produce music of his own.Though established in his field and somewhat content in his day to day world Tim’s mind was still a wash with creativity and a passion for music that had been cultivated as that little boy, alone in his room, listening to “Sergeant Pepper and The Lonely Hearts Club”. Finally, Tim found himself in a position to turn his thoughts into music and his music into inspiration and escape for all those who will listen. He recorded his first album entitled “The 29th Dream”, which is essentially a musical timeline and soundtrack to his life as its inspiration was garnered from thoughts and experiences that took a lifetime to articulate. He is currently in the studio working diligently on his Sophomore album which is sure to once again beckon listeners into a “Dream State” of surreal musical indulgences full of passion, truth, and soul.

The 29th Dream

From the first moments of “My Green Lady,” the second of Tim Marshall’s new CD, “The 29th Dream,” it is clear he is deeply rooted in the English folk-rock traditions of the mid-70s. From the vocal effects to the production and instrumentation – this cut, as does much of the CD, evokes the spirit of Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull. Since the mid-70s was such a rich musical landscape including landmark acts Fairport Convention, The Strawbs, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Yes and the aforementioned Tull, that is not a bad place to be creatively. As a matter of fact, most of these songs were actually written during that period, and Marshall has just now gotten around to recording them. For those of a certain generation (mine), these songs evoke a softer time of optimism and hope. There is certainly a mystical element to much of the music and most of the lyrics that harkens back to the innocence that still reigned in the ‘70s. There is an overall English flavor to the project, even reflecting The Beatles at times. The idealism of the era is alive and well in this work as on “We Do” where Marshall exhorts, “Mother earth she’s in need, and she cries as she bleeds.” The flute work by Darrell Mimms on this song further accents the Jethro Tull influence. This is, admittedly, a niche project, but one that has been very effectively realized. If you are a child of this time and familiar with these referenced artists, you will certainly find much to love. If you are of the younger generation who may never have even heard of some of these groups, you may be surprised how much this modern rendering of the sonic soundscapes and lyrical landscapes of long ago are timely, relevant and very appealing today. Local photographer/artist Scott Griffin created an illustration for each song, and the lyrics are all printed for each song. This certainly sets it apart from most independent releases and is strong creative point that only adds to the impact of a very intriguing project. In addition to writing all the songs (except the lyrics on “Castle Taranve”), Marshall does a fine job on the lead vocals and acoustic guitars. Production values are exemplary.
